5-Day Budget Thailand Trip Plan from India
Great — I’ll plan a cheap, walk + local-transport friendly 5-day Thailand trip (arriving from India; flights excluded). I’ll keep things budget, vegetarian-friendly, and give clear routes, ticket prices (where official), and a final estimated total cost in ₹.
Quick assumptions I used
-
You’ll stay 4 nights (5 days in country). If you want 5 nights, tell me and I’ll update costs.
-
I used current official attraction fees & transport fares where possible (sources cited below). Exchange rate used: 1 THB ≈ ₹2.73 (live rates vary; I used XE). (Royal Grand Palace)
Cheap hostel picks (Bangkok — Khao San / Old City area — great for walking + budget)
-
Khaosan Immjai Hostel — cheap dorm beds, central to Khao San (easy access to Grand Palace / river piers). (book via Agoda/Hostelworld). (Agoda)
(Dorms typically range low-mid hundreds THB/night depending on season — I’ll use 300–400 THB/night for budgeting below.)
Day-by-day plan (simple, bullet style — routes & how to go)
Day 1 — Arrive Bangkok / Khao San area (easy day)
-
Check into hostel (Khao San). Walk around Khao San Road / Rambuttri: street food, small shops.
-
Evening: Chao Phraya riverside walk & sunset near Phra Athit Pier.
-
Transport: walk or short tuk-tuk.
-
Budget items (est): hostel 350 THB, food 300 THB, local travel 100 THB.
Day 2 — Grand Palace + Wat Pho + Wat Arun (classic Old City day)
-
Morning: Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew (open 8:30–15:30). Ticket: 500 THB (official). Go early to avoid heat/crowds. (Royal Grand Palace)
How to get there from Khao San: walk (~15–25 min) or short tuk-tuk to Tha Chang / Grand Palace area. Or take river boat to Tha Chang (express boat). -
Walk across to Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha). Entrance → ~300 THB (typical guide / site fee reported). (Time Travel Turtle)
-
Cross river by ferry (Tha Tien → Tha Taksin) or take local ferry to Wat Arun. Wat Arun entrance ~200 THB (tourism sources). (Tourism Authority of Thailand)
-
Return to Khao San.
-
Budget: palace + temple fees ~1,000 THB total, food 300 THB, travel 150 THB, hostel 350 THB.
Suggested route (step-by-step):
Khao San → walk/tuk-tuk to Grand Palace (or take Chao Phraya boat to Tha Chang) → Grand Palace → walk to Wat Pho → ferry across to Wat Arun → ferry/BTS back to hostel.
Day 3 — Chatuchak / Siam shopping or Museum + Night Market (choose)
-
If weekend: Chatuchak Weekend Market (huge, cheap veg food & souvenirs). Reach by BTS (Mo Chit) or MRT.
-
Or: Bangkok National Museum / Jim Thompson House / Siam area for malls.
-
Transport: BTS / MRT (single fares vary by distance ~16–60 THB). Use Rabbit card if staying longer. (BTS Skytrain)
-
Budget: hostel 350 THB, food 350 THB, BTS/MRT 200 THB.
Day 4 — Day trip to Ayutthaya (ancient capital) — highly recommended
-
Take early train from Hua Lamphong or minivan/express train to Ayutthaya (≈1.5–2 hours).
-
Ayutthaya Historical Park entrance fees: small (~50 THB) per major site or modest park fee; many sites are low cost/free; typical budgeting: ~200–400 THB for entry(s)/bike rent/boat. (Agoda)
-
How to move in Ayutthaya: rent a bicycle (≈50–100 THB) or hire a motorbike/tuk-tuk for a half day. Visit Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Chaiwatthanaram.
-
Return to Bangkok evening.
-
Budget: transport return ~200–600 THB depending on train/bus class, site fees & bike ~300 THB, food 300 THB, hostel 350 THB.
Day 5 — Optional Pattaya short trip OR Bangkok last-minute sights / shopping / departure
Two options:
A. Pattaya day trip (if you want beach + Sanctuary of Truth): bus to Pattaya (~2 hr), Sanctuary of Truth ticket ~500 THB; coral island boat extra. (Thai Pass)
B. Stay in Bangkok: relax, shopping, final temples, or Lumpini Park, then depart.
-
Budget (Pattaya day trip): transport ~400–800 THB roundtrip, Sanctuary ~500 THB, food 300–400 THB.
-
Or Bangkok last day budget: hostel 350 THB, food 300 THB, travel 150 THB.
Local transport quick notes
-
BTS / MRT single fares depend on distance (approx 16–60 THB per trip). Great for Siam/Thonglor/Chatuchak areas. Buy a Rabbit card or single tokens. (BTS Skytrain)
-
Chao Phraya Express Boat: cheap (~15–50 THB) and the best way to move between riverside sights.
-
Local buses are cheap but slower; tuk-tuks negotiate — agree price first.
-
Trains to Ayutthaya: very cheap for 3rd class (under 100 THB) — faster options cost more.
Budget estimate (realistic, mid-budget backpacker) — I’ll show THB → INR calc
(Exchange used 1 THB = ₹2.73 — XE snapshot). (Xe)
Per-item estimates (4 nights / 5 days)
-
Hostels: 350 THB × 4 = 1,400 THB → ₹3,822
-
Food (vegetarian street + casual restaurants): 350 THB/day × 5 = 1,750 THB → ₹4,778
-
Local transport (BTS/ferries/tuk-tuks/day trips): ~1,000 THB → ₹2,730
-
Major attraction fees (Grand Palace 500 + Wat Pho 300 + Wat Arun 200 + Ayutthaya 300 + Pattaya/Sanctuary 500 [optional]) = ~1,800 THB → ₹4,914
-
(If you skip Pattaya, reduce by ~500 THB.)
-
-
Day-trip travel (Ayutthaya return train + local bike/tuk-tuk) ~600 THB → ₹1,638
-
Contingency & small extras: ~750 THB → ₹2,048
Rough total (including Pattaya option):
1,400 + 1,750 + 1,000 + 1,800 + 600 + 750 = 7,300 THB ≈ ₹19,962 ≈ ₹20,000 (round) . (Royal Grand Palace)
If you skip Pattaya (stay only in Bangkok + Ayutthaya), expect ~5,800–6,500 THB → ₹16,000–₹18,000.
Note: I did not include your international flights from India (you said “apart from flight”). Also prices vary by season — temples can change fees and hostels vary by date.
